There are several museums in the beautiful city of Baku that are definitely worth seeing. These include, for example, the National Museum of Art of Azerbaijan, the country’s largest art museum. There are more than 17 thousand works of art, including paintings, sculptures and objects of decorative and applied art and folk art. Expositions are divided between two buildings. The first one contains the works of European, Russian, and Oriental authors; the second is devoted entirely to Azerbaijani artists.
Art lovers should look into the Museum of Modern Art, where more than 800 works of national artists are collected. Mostly these are avant-garde paintings, although here you can see several works by world-famous authors: Chagall, Dali, Picasso. In a certain sense, this museum was the brainchild of the artist Altai Sadikh-zadeh, who was the author of the concept, architectural project and organizer of the exhibitions. Works of the artist can also be seen here. The peculiarity of this museum is in the original free organization of space and an informal approach to exhibitions: works of art are exhibited even in the cafe and restaurant of the museum.
The History Museum of Azerbaijan occupies the historic mansion of Tagiyev, and several rooms in it are specially reserved for the museum-apartment of the national hero. The main part of the exhibition, located on two floors, is devoted to all periods of the history of Azerbaijan since prehistoric times. It is very interesting to explore the archaeological finds from the Bronze Age, the later period and the Middle Ages.

This is largely a scientific institution, but much attention is paid to educational goals. In the museum you can see paleontological finds from different regions of the country, mineral samples, skeletons of invertebrates and vertebrates, fossils, etc. – only about 1,500 exhibits. The most valuable of them is the mammoth skull.
The museum of Azerbaijani literature deserves attention, if only because a lot of attention is paid to the poet Nizami, after whom the museum is named. Here, in particular, you can see the original manuscripts of his poems of the 15th century with color illustrations and miniatures.
And another museum, similar to this, is considered by Azerbaijanis to be the first museum of its kind in the world: it is dedicated exclusively to a miniature book.
This museum was opened in 2002, and in its collection there are about 6.5 thousand exhibits, including Russian and Soviet publications, as well as European and Asian books.
A specific exhibition space is the restaurant-museum “Karavansaray” on ul. Gala in Icheri Sheher. It occupies a stunning historic building of the 14th century.
