Day Tour from Baku to Shamakhi and Lahic 

On the way to Shamakhi you will have a short stop near Diri baba Mouseleum. It is a unique monument of the 15th century, a two-storey mausoleum-mosque called Diri Baba (1402). The Mausoleum amazes one with the austerity of its architecture, carved out from the surrounding rocks. You will have the chance to go there and enjoy a panoramic view of the surroundings from the top. Crowds of locals come here seeking good fortune, a child, or the answer to their problems using a mixture of prayer, sacrifice.

After visiting Diri Baba Mouselum you will proceed to Shamakhi. During a sightseeing tour across the city, you will see the natural beauty of Shamakhi suburbs. One of the most significant sites of Shamkhi is restored Juma mosque building was erected in the 19th century, damaged during the civil unrest of 1918 and not restored until recent years. Nonetheless, the powerful, bare stone interior columns exude a feeling of great antiquity.

After Shamakhi tour climbs to Lahich village and takes an incredible view of the unique village, which is historical-architectural preserve.  The village was built in the 5th century B.C. on the canyon of the river Girdimanchai (Upper Caucasus). Due to frequent earthquakes, the village developed its own building techniques, a traditional stone-and-wood cross-tie technique known as divarchu (“wood wall”). This technique has proven results – the damage provoked by quakes in places like Shemakha remains unseen in Lahich. You will spend a few interesting hours in Lahich and have the chance to learn about customs and traditions and see the lifestyle of the Azerbaijan main copper hub in ancient times. Walk along the cobblestone streets, visit the History Museum, browse the shops, have a look at the copper workshop or visit the carpets cooperative.
